Join us for a special Halloween Open Evening
Friday 30th October, 6:30 to 8:30pm
The David Le Conte Astronomical Observatory is hosting a joint evening for the Astronomy, Entomology and Bat sections. This event will be weather dependent, so keep an eye on this page for updates.
Activities
With suitable weather, the Astronomy Section will be using telescopes to look at Saturn and its moons, and Autumn objects including galaxies, nebulae and star clusters.
There are 14 species of bat recorded in the Bailiwick. The Bat Section will be running guided bat walks and using heterodyne bat detectors to look for a variety of species in the area.
The Entomology Section will be moth trapping using their lights to attract moths into a safe container so they can be observed, identified, and released unharmed.
Important
Please park at La Houguette School and walk to the observatory ensuring that you are visible to traffic. There will be signs to guide you approximately 100m to Rue du Lorier. See our map for help finding us.
Note
Blue Badge holders are always welcome to use the observatory parking, but please take care manoeuvring amongst people in the darkness.
You can access our risk assessment and guide for visitors.
